    Description

This print is restored from a 1936 CNW advertisement for the newly opened Sun Valley (Idaho) resort. It is printed on
    gloss cardstock photo paper
with Canon inks and is guaranteed for 100 years without fading.
The Chicago Northwestern (CNW) was also known as the “Northwestern” and operated 5,000 miles of track in the Upper Midwest at its peak. The CNW connected the Union Pacific at Omaha to make the Chicago to West Coast connection. CNW had interests and ownership in a number of other mid-sized midwestern railroads including the Chicago, St. Paul, Minneapolis, and Omaha (Omaha Road) and Minneapolis and St. Louis Railroad.  The CNW also absorbed the Chicago Great Western Railroad, known as the Corn Belt Route. After a series of restructuring moves, it was acquired by the Union Pacific Railroad. The CNW had a number of joint passenger trains to the West Coast including the City of Los Angeles, City of San Franciso, City of Denver, Challenger, and the Overland Limited.
    Poster text reads:
Chicago and North Western Line This Summer - Sun Valley
    .
Sun Valley was a resort created specifically by the Union Pacific Railroad in order to create more rail traffic to the West Coast. The resort opened in 1936, and it relied heavily on advertising to bring people there on special trains such as the “Snowball Express”.  While CNW did not go there directly, it had a passenger rail partnership with UP to promote rail traffic to the West.
