VINTAGE 1890s-1930s F.R. RICE MERCANTILE CIGAR CO. TOBACCO TIN CAN ST. LOUIS, MO

This is an antique, or vintage, cigar tin. The front has EMBOSSED printing, and reads: "F.R. RICE M.C. CO...AGENT CIGARS...The Name 'RICE AGENT' Is Stamped On Each Cigar." (F.R. RICE M.C. CO." stands for "Frank R. Rice Mercantile Cigar Company.") In addition, the other sides have printing that reads (in part): "Strictly Long Havana Filler...Sumatra Wrapper Hand Made...retail at more than five cents each, and not more than eight cents each and are so tax paid...FACTORY NO. 304, DIST. OHIO." The tobacco used in the cigars may have come from Ohio, but the F.R. RICE cigar company was headquartered in St. Louis, Missouri. The can originally held 25 cigars. The base is 3 inches square, and the can stands 4 & 5/8 inches tall. The condition is VERY GOOD to EXCELLENT, with minor wear in the form of small paint nicks and scratches. No significant flaws. The paint is clean and bright, and you'll be hard pressed to ever find a nicer example of this hard to find tin. I do not see any evidence of a tax stamp ever having been on the can. I found one source that estimated this can was made between 1890 to 1930. It is guaranteed to be old & original, or your money back.
